How did Radio 3hive come about?

It started back in 2004 with a blog, 3hive.com. Friends would ask us what we’re listening to, what music they should check out. 3hive, the blog, was our answer to that. Then we realized we were missing the physical equivalent of the blog: a record shop where people can hang out and get music recommendations, shop for records, meet other people who are into music and vinyl, be part of a local music community, etc.. There wasn’t anything of the kind in the area where we lived. So that’s why we opened 3hive Record Lounge in 2018 in Provo, Utah. It’s a two-university town and the support for our record store has been amazing.

How does the station tie in with the Record Lounge? Tell us all the about the store!

At our core we love introducing people to new music. The radio station is our streaming 24/7 answer to “what are you listening to?” That’s a question we get asked a lot at the store and we realized that not only do we have a pretty good, eclectic answer to that question – so do a lot of our co-workers, friends, and customers. And so, Radio 3hive was born!

What is the part of your job you love the most?

Introducing people to new music and maybe older stuff that slipped by their radar.

Who is an artist or band totally outside the realm of the music you play on Radio 3hive that people might be surprised to know you love?

Anthrax, their 2nd (Spreading The Disease) through 5th (Persistence of Time) albums are flawless to my ears.
