January 2022 MD of the Month | Gil Cuevas, WMUA Amherst, MA
“I love love love getting to discover new music, which is one of the main reasons I became interested in becoming a Music Director. Getting to expand the horizons of my music consumption is definitely the thing I love the most about my job.”
December MD of the Month | Jeff Szczesniak, WDWN Auburn
“I really do love searching and finding new music especially when you come across a song that changes your whole mood for that day. I mean you listen to it like 4 times in a row and forget about everything else in the world. Then you share it on social media, I am seriously guilty for that.”
Industry Interview with Sherry Finzer, Higher Level Media
“The most memorable campaign so far has been for Peter Kater, who at that time was a 10-time GRAMMY Nominee. Not only were we thrilled to see his album Wings go to #1 on several industry radio charts, but we were also able to celebrate when Wings received a GRAMMY nomination. It was a thrill to attend the GRAMMY Awards in person that year, and to be there to watch Peter cross the stage to receive his award for Best New Age Album.”
Industry Interview with Katherine Phan, Concord
“One of my internships gave me and a friend the opportunity to attend Coachella for free while promoting Arizona Tea beverages. After finishing our shift each evening, we were able to explore the festival grounds and catch sets from both our favorite artists and ones we’ve just discovered that day. I was super stoked to see M83 perform songs from Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming. Happy 10th anniversary to such an amazing record!”
November MD(s) of the Month | Zaina and Chiamaka, KUCR Riverside, CA
“I saw blackwinterwells back in August, and their performance was incredible. They really paid attention to the energy of the crowd and delivered a killer vocal performance their entire set. I’ve gone to several live shows now that tours are happening. I’ve seen Alice Gas three times in the past few months and many local acts perform in my area which has been exciting. I’m definitely looking forward to attending more shows and concerts”
Industry Interview with Sali Zielachowski, Twin Vision
“There are a lot of projects I feel incredibly fortunate & proud to have been involved with. One of my favorites was Chrysta Bell. We worked her first collaboration with David Lynch. I’m a longtime Lynch fan, so that was epic for me, and that album also made me a big fan of Chrysta Bell. We’ve kept in touch & worked together since, even after her career really took off.”
October MD of the Month | Ra’keem Simmonds, CKDU Halifax
“I love finding music that I may not have found on my own. Not only have I found so many Gems to add to the station but I also find so many songs and albums that I enjoy and they seep into my personal listening and I love it. I also love making the charts every week, and seeing the stuff we have in common with other stations and the stuff we might be playing first :)”
September MD of the Month | Sasha Goldblatt, WHUS Radio UConn
“The best live show I’ve seen has got to be when I saw ILLENIUM at Boston Calling. They had a huge setup of graphics and the beat drops were ridiculous.”
Industry Interview with Jerry Steller, Vitriol Radio Promotion
“Getting to promote an album for Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys and meeting him was a real thrill. Being involved with promoting projects for artists I was a huge fan of before I got to promote them, like Metric, David Bowie, Kylie Minogue, Robyn, Phoenix, and Built To Spill has been very fulfilling.”
