Bon Iver Hit Their First NACC Chart-Topper

Eau Claire, WI six-piece Bon Iver scored the highest debut of the year two weeks ago, opening at #11 on the NACC 200. That was a fairly good indication of where things were headed. This week, the band’s fifth studio album, SABLE, fABLE (Jagjaguwar), completes its climb to #1 on the NACC 200, rising 3-1. The LP is their first NACC chart-topper after reaching the Top 5 in 2019 with I, I. Fronted by singer, songwriter, and producer Justin Vernon, the band, formed in 2006, has become a darling of the indie radio scene and now has the feather in their cap to show for their efforts. The album also rises 2-1 at NACC NEXT and spends a second week atop NACC Non-Comm to give them the fourth record to top all three charts simultaneously this year.

Three albums reach the NACC 200 Top 10 this week. The first belongs to St. Louis, MO native Tunde Adebimpe. For nearly 25 years, he has been known as the frontman for TV On The Radio. It’s been over a decade since the band released an album, but love for Adebimpe remains strong at NACC Radio. His first solo effort, Thee Black Boltz (Sub Pop), was last week’s most-added and third-highest-debuting album. This week it soars into the NACC 200’s Top 10 and enjoys the biggest climb into the top tier, up 45-8. He also rises into the Top 5 at both NACC NEXT & Non-Comm.

The next two Top 10s this week come from artists we’ve never had the opportunity to feature in our Wednesday NACC Chart Recap. Rising from 11 to 9 is Panchiko, a quintet from Nottingham, England, with perhaps the most interesting background we’ve come across. Formed in 1997 when its members were all under 17, the band toiled in relative obscurity before disbanding in 2001. Fast forward to 2016, when an anonymous user on 4chan posted about one of the band’s badly damaged EPs they’d discovered in an Oxfam charity shop. An online quest began to uncover more about them as the liner notes only contained the band members’ first names. In 2020, the band was finally made aware of the cult following they had built online and re-released the EP. This ultimately led to their reforming, and two studio albums have followed: 2023’s Failed At Math(s) and their latest, Ginkgo (Nettwerk).

The last of our trio of new Top 10 albums comes from the Los Angeles-based trio L.A. Witch. The band was formed by Ellie English, Irita Pai, and Sade Sanchez in 2011 when Sanchez’s boyfriend forbade her from playing with male musicians. Hopefully, that ridiculousness was a relationship deal-breaker! They originally wanted to be called Witch, but discovered that name was already taken. Rest assured, they want to be a Witch in more than just L.A.! Their third LP, DOGGOD (Suicide Squeeze), becomes their first NACC 200 Top 10, rising 13-10 this week.

Taking the most-added honors this week is Indianapolis five-piece Wishy. Led by Kevin Krauter, formerly of the band Hoops, Wishy formed in 2021. The band released two EPs in 2023, followed by their debut LP, Triple Seven, last year. That album reached the Top 10 of the NACC 200. Now Wishy is back with their third EP, Planet Popstar (Winspear). It collected 55 Top 10 Adds this week and became just the second EP this year to top the NACC 200 Top 30 Adds Chart. They also enjoy the second-highest debut on the week (just one spot behind #1) and open at #64 on the NACC 200.

Wet Leg enjoys a third week atop NACC Singles with “Catch These Fists,” the first song from their second LP, moisturizer, due July 11. The song became only the third single ever to reach the NACC Top 10 last week. This week it dips to #11, which is still pretty impressive. Three singles (out of a whopping 64 that went for adds) reach the NACC 200 Top 30 Adds Chart this week. Tops among them is Aukland, New Zealand native Lorde with her first single in four years: “What Was That.” Coming in close behind her are new singles from Savak & Softcult.
