Clairo scores her third chart-topping album

As soon as Claire Cottrill aka Clairo debuted inside the Top 10 of the NACC 200 the same week she went for adds, it was pretty clear it was just a matter of time before she reached #1. And that time was very short! She leapt from 10-2 last week and storms past Wilco this week to score her third chart-topping album in as many tries. 2019’s debut, Immunity, and 2021’s Sling, along with her new Charm (Virgin) release, have now moved her into a tie with Mitski and Soccer Mommy as the only artists with three solo #1s on the NACC 200. She also reaches #1 on NACC NEXT this week, rising 2-1 there as well.

Three new albums reach the Top 10 of the NACC 200. After stalling last week, holding at #11, and losing points from the week before, New York City based quintet Been Stellar becomes much more stellar this week and soars ahead 11-4 to score their first NACC Top 10 album with their debut LP, Scream From New York, NY (Dirty Hit).

Also reaching the Top 10 is Cigarettes After Sex, a trio that Greg Gonzalez began in 2008 in El Paso, TX. Gonzalez relocated to Brooklyn after an initial EP was released in 2012. Three LPs have followed: a 2017 self-titled studio album debut, 2019’s Cry, and their latest, X’s (Partisan), which rises 12-8 to become their first NACC Top 10-peaking album. Also, kids… please don’t smoke, even after copulation.

Soaring onto the NACC 200 this week at #10 is last week’s most added album from Dr. Dog. The Philadelphia six-piece formed in 1999 and has released 11 LPs. Their latest is a self-titled effort on We Buy Gold. The band has not released an album since 2018’s Critical Equation (which went to #1), and excitement for the band has clearly not waned in that time. Their album becomes just the fourth to debut inside the Top 10 this year.

This week’s most-added release comes from New York City duo Cults. The project began in 2010 when San Diego natives Madeline Follin and Ryan Mattos (who goes by Brian Oblivion) both attended school in NYC. Their fifth LP, To The Ghosts (Imperial), collects 57 Top 10 Adds this week becoming their second straight most-added release (following 2020’s Host) and debuts on the NACC 200 at #101.

Suki Waterhouse spends a second week at #1 on NACC Singles with her single “Supersad.” It comes from her upcoming sophomore LP, Memoir Of A Sparklemuffin, due September 13. A whopping eight singles reach the NACC 200 Top 30 Adds Chart this week. It’s rare to see that many singles on the chart this time of year. Leading the charge is a new collaboration between Karen O & Danger Mouse. They released an album together in 2019 called Lux Prima and now they’re back with a new song, “Super Breath,” which will be part of a re-issue of that album on September 19. The single scores a rare Top 5 overall add. Also enjoying Top 30 adds this week with new singles are King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Peel Dream Magazine, Brock Geiger, Cal In Red, Gillian Welsh, and Spirit Of The Beehive.
