Clairo ties Sleater-Kinney for the second-most weeks at #1 in 2024

Clairo is owning the NACC 200 at the moment and her third LP, Charm (Virgin), has now spent twice as much time at #1 as either of her previous chart-topping albums. She moves into a tie with Sleater-Kinney for the second-most weeks at #1 in 2024 by spending a fourth week on top. In addition, she still holds a very sizable lead over Dr. Dog, who spends a third week in-a-row behind her at #2. She does begin losing points for the first time this week, so there is now a glimmer or hope for any other albums that have their sights set on reaching the top. There are a wave of potential challengers surging into the Top 10 this week. But if she can hold them off and remain at #1 next week, she’ll tie Waxahatchee for the most weeks on top this year.

Four albums reach the NACC Top 10 this week. Last week’s biggest climber, Osees, hops 18-10. But the other three albums reaching the top tier make bigger moves than that so we’ll be featuring them here this week. The first is last week’s highest debut from Australian six-piece King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard. Their 26th studio album, Flight b741 (out on their new label p(doom)), leaps ahead 23-4 and in doing so scores their amazing 11th Top 10 release on the NACC 200, more than any other artist. They’re also still very much in the running to score their third #1 and are a tantalizing three spots away.

Another artist who is no stranger to our charts is Detroit native Jack White, who’s back in the NACC Top 10 this week. Both as a solo artist and in his various bands (The White Stripes, The Dead Weather, & The Raconteurs), White has been a staple at College and Non-Comm Radio since the 1999 self-titled debut from The White Stripes. In more recent years, he reached the Top 10 with his 2018 solo effort, Boarding House Reach, and again in 2019 with The Raconteurs’ Help Us Stranger. Now his sixth solo release, No Name (out on his own Third Man imprint), jumps ahead from 24-7.

Enjoying the biggest climb into the Top 10 this week is an artist who has blown up in the last six or so years. Philippines-born, London-raised Beatrice Laus, who records as Beabadoobee, released four EPs in 2018 & 2019 before her 2020 debut LP, Fake It Flowers, exploded onto the scene and gave her a #1 NACC 200 hit. She went Top 10 again the next year with an EP and again in 2022 with her sophomore LP, Beatopia. Her third studio album, This Is How Tomorrow Moves (Dirty Hit,) is this week’s most added album, gathering 76 Top 10 Adds, and leaps from 42-8 to give her her fourth NACC 200 Top 10 album. It also reaches the Top 10 at NACC Non-Comm and NACC NEXT.

The highest debut on the NACC 200 this week belongs to Melbourne, Australia quartet, Quivers. Although they’ve been around for a minute now, their third album, Oyster Cuts (Merge), is giving us our first opportunity to showcase them on the Wednesday NACC Chart Recap. They first hit the scene in 2018 with their debut effort, We’ll Go Out Riding On The Hearses. Then came 2021’s Golden Doubt. Winning reviews and high-profile opening slots have built the buzz that helps their new album debut higher than anyone else this week at #28.

After enjoying one of the most-added singles of 2024 two weeks ago and then exploding onto the NACC Singles Chart at #2 last week, Soccer Mommy hops 2-1 with “M,” the second advance single from her upcoming fourth LP, Evergreen, due October 25. First single, “Lost,” reached #2 on the chart in June. Three singles reach the NACC 200 Top 30 Adds Chart this week. It was a close battle as they are all within one add of one another. But Fievel Is Glauque is this week’s most-added single with “As Above So Below.” Parent album, Rong Weicknes, is also out October 25. Right behind them on the adds list this week are new singles from Melt and Rubblebucket.
