Dan Auerbach’s project The Arcs rises to #1 on the NACC 200

The Black Keys vocalist Dan Auerbach is back at #1 on the NACC 200 this week though he’s never been there in this configuration. He’s topped the chart twice before (in 2019 and 2022) with The Black Keys’ ninth LP, ‘Let’s Rock’ and last year’s Dropout Boogie, their 11th album. He now becomes just the fourth artist to top the NACC 200 three or more times as the second album from his side project, The Arcs, has risen to #1 on the NACC 200. Electrophonic Chronic (Easy Eye Sound/Concord) climbs 2-1 on the chart this week after recently reaching #1 on both the NACC Non-Comm and NACC NEXT Charts.

All five of last week’s top-debuting albums on the NACC 200 this week storm into the top 11 spots on the chart, displacing a number of other records that fall despite retaining their bullets. Two of this week’s four Top 10 debuts were featured last week: Paramore, who scored the highest debut last week rises 28-7 and last week’s most-added record, from Andy Shauf, leaps 44-8. We’ll feature the other two this week. Washington DC-born Kelela Mizanekristos, who records simply at Kelela is back with her second LP, Raven (Warp). It’s been nearly six years since her debut album, Take Me Apart. This new release soars from 50-5 on the NACC 200 while simultaneously reaching the Top 10 of NACC Non-Comm, NACC NEXT, and R&B/Soul.

Also reaching the Top 10 this week is longtime indie favorite Yo La Tengo. Although they’ve been hailed by AllMusic as “the quintessential indie rock band” and despite releasing 17 albums since they formed in 1984, this is our first opportunity to feature them here. Started by husband and wife couple Georgia Hubley and Ira Kaplan in 1984, Yo La Tengo has long been a trio with bassist James McNew part of the band since 1992. This week the aptly titled album This Stupid World (Matador) jumps 35-4 on the NACC 200.

This week’s highest entry is just the seventh single that has scored the highest debut on the NACC 200. It comes from influential electronic band Depeche Mode. Called “the most popular electronic band the world has ever known” by Q Magazine, the group, which has sadly been reduced to a duo after the death of founding member Andy Fletcher in May of 2022, is prepping its fourteenth LP, Momento Mori, due March 24. Dave Gahan and Martin Gore debut at #31 on the NACC 200 this week with “Ghosts Again” (Columbia/Sony). The song also climbs 28-2 on NACC Singles as well.

Collecting the most Top 10 Adds this week is Dave Portner, who records as Avey Tare (not Avery Tare as a number of reporters tried to chart him this week). The Baltimore native began his musical career in 1995 and is a founding member of Animal Collective. Portner has released three previous solo LPs as well as four collaborative albums. In addition to taking most-added honors this week with 59 Top 10 Adds, his fourth solo LP, 7s (Domino), debuts at #129 on the NACC 200.

“Weightless,” the first single from Arlo Parks‘ second LP, My Soft Machine (due May 26), spends a fourth at #1 on the NACC Singles Chart and still holds a massive lead over the next highest charting single, though she does drop out of the Top 10 of the NACC 200. For some perspective, her #12 position this week is still higher than all but one single has ever placed on the NACC 200. An unprecedented tie occurs with our most-added single this week. Not two, not three, but SIX singles tie for most-added honors. Scroll down to see who the lucky artists are who can all claim bragging rights.

The current NACC Top 5 overall Adds, the genre chart-toppers, and the week’s most-added genre records are included below. In addition to returns to #1 at NACC Non-Comm and Chill, there are new #1s at NACC NEXT, Heavy, and Jazz.
