Dehd earns a second week at #1 on the NACC 200

Chicago’s Dehd reached #1 for the first time last week. The band formed in 2015 and has released five studio albums, including their latest, Poetry (Fat Possum). In addition to spending a second week at #1 on the NACC 200 this week, they lock down the top spot at NACC NEXT for a second week as well. Dehd is currently on a European tour, but will be back stateside for a string of North American dates beginning October 17 in Toronto. As for their competition for the top next week, that will come from Crumb (3-2) and La Luz (13-3), Both bands gain substantial ground on Dehd this week. Dehd is up 16%, Crumb is up 30%, and La Luz is up 50% and all are legitimate contenders for #1 next week. Should be fun to see how it shakes out!

Two new albums reach the NACC Top 10 this week. One is a recently featured album from Shannon And The Clams (who were the chart’s biggest-climber two weeks ago). They rise 12-5. But making the biggest move into the Top 10 is Seattle quartet La Luz. Fronted by Shana Cleveland, the band formed in 2012 and has released five LPs. We featured their two previous albums here when 2018’s Floating Features also enjoyed the largest move into the Top 10, up 58-7. In 2021, their self-titled album spent two weeks at #1. This move also gives Cleveland her fifth NACC 200 Top 10 album as she reached the Top 10 on her own with solo releases in 2019 and 2023.

Debuting on the NACC 200 this week higher than any other artist is Los Angeles four-piece, The Marias. They began making music together in 2016 and signed to Atlantic Records ahead of their debut 2021 LP, Cinema. Their sophomore release, Submarine, is giving the band their biggest visibility yet. Lead single “Run Your Mouth” is now inside the Top 15 at AAA Radio and has also reached the Top 30 at Alternative. This album gives us our first opportunity to feature the band on our weekly Wednesday NACC Chart Recap as they debut at #34.

The week’s biggest climb on the NACC 200 is the largest on the chart since February and the third-biggest of 2024 so far. It comes from Ontario, Canada twin sister duo Softcult. Together, sisters Phoenix and Mercedes Arn-Horn have been making music since 2020. Their second EP, Year Of The Snake, was also the biggest climber in 2022 when it rose 180-27. We featured them again last year when their third EP, See You In The Dark, rose into the Top 10. Now their fourth EP, Heaven (Easy Life), soars 200-42.

This week’s most-added album gives us our first opportunity to highlight Brooklyn quintet, Habibi. After moving from Detroit to NYC, members Lenaya Lynch and Cahill Jamalifard formed Habibi in 2011. Dreamachine (Kill Rock Stars) is their third studio album and their first in four years. It collects 47 Top 10 Adds this week and sneaks aboard the NACC 200 at #200. That should mean a lofty climb for them next week. Habibi is currently saturating California with tour dates. They have nine on the books over the next two weeks.

This week, Irish quartet Fontaines DC spends another week at #1 on NACC Singles with “Starbuster.” In doing so, they extend the longest-running chart-topping single of 2024 to six weeks and gives them the longest-running #1 single dating back to The Beatles’ 2023 run. The song is on their fourth album, Romance, due August 23. This week’s most-added single is the second advance track from Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds‘ upcoming 18th LP, Wild God, due August 30. “Frogs” is one of six singles to make this week’s NACC 200 Top 30 Adds Chart, besting new singles from Rubblebucket, Pond, and others.
