Fever Ray Races 10-1 to Score Their Second NACC 200 #1

After showcasing one if the longest climbs ever to #1 on the NACC 200 last week, we feature a record this week that ties for the fastest climb to the top. We mentioned last week that there was a possibility of last week’s highest chart debut from Fever Ray climbing straight to #1 this week and that is exactly what happened. Swedish singer Karin Dreijer races 10-1 and scores their second NACC 200 chart-topper with Radical Romantics (Mute). The album led a trio of new releases soaring into the Top 5 this week.

One of the albums racing into the Top 10 (and simultaneously the Top 5) is last week’s most-added LP, V (Jagjaguwar/Secretly Group), from Unknown Mortal Orchestra (who also reaches #1 at NACC Non-Comm this week). But it’s Miami-born musician Sean Bowie, who records as Yves Tumor, who has this week’s biggest climb into the Top 10. Their fifth LP (and third of Warp Records) has one of the longest titles we’ve seen in the upper reaches of our chart: Praise A Lord Who Chews But Which Does Not Consume; (Or Simply, Hot Between Worlds). The album jumps 23-3 and along with Fever Ray and Unknown Mortal Orchestra, gives us a three-way race for the top spot next week.

This week’s highest debut comes from English duo Depeche Mode. Hailed as “one of the greatest British pop groups of all time” by The Sunday Telegraph and named as an influence of a bevy of bands from Arcade Fire, Metric, and The Killers to Smashing Pumpkins, Nine Inch Nails, and Muse, just to name a few, musicians Dave Gahan and Martin Gore (who have been making music together since 1980) are back with their 15th LP and first since the passing of original member Andy Fletcher last year. Memento Mori (Columbia/Sony) debuts at #34 this week. The album also debuts at #2 at NACC NEXT.

Brighton, England quartet Black Honey has returned with their third studio album, A Fistful Of Peaches (Foxfive). They formed in 2014 and released three EPs ahead of their self-titled debut album in 2018. This release is the first we’ve been able to feature here on our NACC Chart Recap as it makes the biggest climb on the NAC 200, rising 167-32.

This week’s most-added release comes from San Francisco-birthed quartet Deerhoof. The group have long been favorites at College and Non-Commercial radio with 18 LPs scattered over nearly 30 years together. Their latest, Miracle-Level (Joyful Noise), is their first recorded all in Japanese and collects 67 Top 10 Adds as well as checking in at #175 on the NACC 200 this week.

Eight-time Grammy winner and long-time indie favorite Beck rises 2-1 on NACC Singles this week with his stand-alone single “Thinking About You.” The song has been percolating in the Top 5 of the chart since it debuted the week of February 21. Los Angeles five-piece Grouplove is back with new music from their forthcoming sixth LP, I Want It All Right Now, due July 7. “Hello” collects the most Top 10 adds of any single going for adds this week and is one of only two singles to land on the NACC 200 Top 30 Adds Chart with Ruen Brothers having the other.

The current Top 5 overall NACC Adds, the genre chart-toppers, and the week’s most-added genre records are included below. There are new #1s at NACC Non-Comm, World, Blues, Heavy, Chill, Jazz, and Latin.
