NACC 200 NOTABLES:
1] Just when it looked like Brooklyn quartet Geese might get plucked from the #1 spot by a meteorically fast-rising Snocaps, the band not only hunkers down but gains in points over last week’s totals and holds tight at #1 on the NACC 200 for a fifth straight week. That moves them into a tie with Father John Misty for the third-longest stay at #1 in 2025. They also hold down the top spot at NACC NEXT and NACC Non-Comm for a fifth week as well.
2] The truly iconic Mavis Staples makes the biggest move into the NACC Top 10 this week with her fifteenth solo album, Sad And Beautiful. Staples has been making music for 75 years, starting out in her family group, The Staples Singers. The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame & Blues Hall Of Fame member and lifetime achievement Grammy Award winner sails ahead 71-7 on the NACC 200 to score her third Top 10 on the chart. She also leaps 8-1 on the NACC R&B/Soul Chart.
3] Two other albums reach the NACC Top 10 this week. Texas native Hannah Jadagu rises 13-8 and scores her second Top 10 album in as many tries. Her debut, 2023’s Aperture, gave her the first, and now the follow-up, Describe, makes her two-for-two. Also reaching the top tier is Alaska-formed, Portland-residing band Portugal. The Man. Now just a duo comprised of original members John Gourley & Zoe Manville (who also happen to be married), the band leaps 38-9 to score their second Top 10 album with their tenth LP, Shish. They topped the NACC 200 in 2017 with their eighth studio album, Woodstock.
4] Making the biggest climb on the NACC 200 this week is Washington D.C. native Jordana Nye, who records simply as Jordana. Since 2019, she’s been busy, releasing four studio albums and five EPs, including her latest, Jordanaland. The EP soars from 198-33 on the NACC 200 this week, giving us our first opportunity to feature her on our weekly NACC Chart Recap.
5] It was a close battle for ‘most-added’ honors this week, but when the dust settled, Runo Plum took the top spot, besting Bartees Strange by just one add. The Minneapolis musician got on the map earlier this year, recording a song with Hovvdy. Now her debut album, Patching, helps her star rise even further as it bests the 126 other official NACC Adds this week to land at #1 on NACC 200 Top 30 Adds.
GENRE CHART HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK
1] Courtney Barnett enjoys a fourth week at #1 on NACC Singles with “Stay In Your Lane.” It’s one of three #1 singles this year to spend four or more weeks on top of the 18 that have topped the chart this year.
2] Making a fairly rare #1 debut this week at NACC Jazz is Brandon Sanders. His third solo album, Lasting Impression, becomes just the third release this year to debut straight out of the box at #1 on the NACC Jazz Chart.
3] Gender, race, sexual orientation, and gender identity have thankfully not been barriers to success for musicians at College and Non-Comm radio, as they sadly remain in other areas of life and the world. Thankfully, age is not one either. Joining the aforementioned 86 year-old Mavis Staples at the top of a NACC genre chart this week is 80 year-old Steve Martin. His collaborative album with Alison Brown, “Safe, Sensible, And Sane,” enjoys a third week at the top of the NACC Folk chart this week.
