Japanese Breakfast Nears NACC Record with Fourth Week at #1

Philly four-piece Japanese Breakfast continues their run atop the NACC 200 this week, logging a fourth straight week at #1 with their fourth studio album, For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women) out on Dead Oceans. They are now just one week shy of tying Father John Misty for the longest-running chart-topper of 2025. Also of note is that they move into the Top 10 artists with the most cumulative time at #1 in NACC 200 history. With their nine total weeks on top, they move into a tie at #9 on the list with Beach House, Weyes Blood, & aforementioned Father John Misty. This time around, the massive lead over their closest competitors has shrunk. The Top 4 of the NACC 200 this week have the most points of any Top 4 on the chart dating back to April 16, 2024. So Momma (4-2) and Bon Iver (11-3) will be serious contenders for the top next week.

Four bands have entered the Top 10 this week that were not there last time, and all of them have previously had records in the top tier. Making the biggest climb into the Top 10 is Austin, TX-formed, Atlanta, GA-based quartet Mamalarky. They tied Bon Iver last week for the most-added album with their third LP, Hex Key. This week, they reach the Top 10 for a second time with their Epitaph Records debut. It sails ahead from 51-7, giving them the fourth biggest climb into the Top 10 this year.

Speaking of Bon Iver, the Eau Claire, WI outfit makes an impressive 11-3 climb on the NACC 200 after scoring the highest debut of the year last week. The band’s fifth studio album, SABLE, fABLE (Jagjaguwar), becomes their second Top 5-peaking album on the NACC 200 and is certainly very much in the running for becoming their first chart-topper. The album has already topped another one of our charts this week, rising 5-1 at NACC Non-Comm. They also climb 11-2 at NACC NEXT.

Brooklyn-based quartet Florist also finds themselves back in the Top 10 of the NACC 200 this week. The band formed in 2013 when lead singer Emily Sprague met Rick Spataro & Jonnie Baker (who were then part of a band called Told Slant) when all three lived in Albany, NY. They first reached the Top 10 in 2022 when their self-titled fourth album jumped straight into the Top 5 of the chart. Now their follow-up LP, Jellyfish (Double Double Whammy), gives them their second straight Top 10, leaping 27-10.

Taking this week’s ‘most-added’ crown is TV On The Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe. Making music professionally since 1998, Adebimpe formed TV On The Radio in 2001, and together they released five albums before going on hiatus in 2015. He has since dipped into acting and most recently starred in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. Although TV On The Radio began touring again in 2024, Adebimpe is now back with new music that is all his own. His debut solo effort, Thee Black Boltz (Sub Pop), collects 59 Top 10 Adds this week and scores the third-highest debut on the NACC 200 at #45. He also makes a Top 10 debut at NACC Non-Comm, opening at #9.

Last week, Wet Leg rose to #1 at NACC Singles with “Catch These Fists,” the first single off their highly anticipated sophomore LP, moisturizer, which comes out July 11. This week, the song does what very few have done before by reaching the Top 10 of the NACC 200. The song climbs 14-9 and joins the rarified air that only Arlo Parks and Soccer Mommy have enjoyed previously. Wet Leg’s climb also gives them the second-highest-ever single on the NACC 200. King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard land the second-highest adding single of 2025 on the NACC 200 Top 30 Adds Chart this week with “Deadstick,” the second single off their upcoming 27th LP, Phantom Island, due June 13. They lead four singles that placed on the overall adds chart this week. The others are from Grumpy, Alice Phoebe Lou, & Yumi Zouma.
