Japanese Breakfast Secures NACC Musical Hat Trick

Philly-based quartet Japanese Breakfast continues to dominate the NACC Charts and does so even more forcefully than last week. Their fourth Dead Oceans release, For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women), not only spends a second week at #1 on the NACC 200, but increases their already 2025 record-breaking point total from last week. The album collects more points than any #1 album dating back to November when The Cure spent a second week at #1. In addition to enjoying a second week atop NACC Non-Comm, the band secures the NACC musical hat trick this week by rising to #1 at NACC NEXT. Their lead over the next album on the NACC 200 is substantial… nearly twice as many points, so although two albums soar into the Top 3 behind them this week, Japanese Breakfast seems firmly entrenched at #1. That being said, anything can happen!

A whopping five albums are in the NACC Top 10 this week that were not there last week, the sort of turnover has only happened six times previously. Horsegirl rebounds 12-10 and Lucy Dacus leaps 16-2.

Last week, Vancouver’s Destroyer had the most-added album, and as expected, it made a significant leap up the charts. Their 14th LP, Dan’s Boogie (Merge), skyrockets from No. 84 to No. 3—an especially impressive jump. It marks the biggest climb into the Top 10 this year and the largest jump into the Top 3 since August 2023. Additionally, the album debuts this week on both the NACC NEXT and NACC Non-Comm Charts.

Another big climb into the top tier comes from Weatherday. It’s the moniker for an enigmatic Swedish musician that goes by the personal name Sputnik. Their real name is not publicly known, and they value their privacy. The musician has released music under the names Lola’s Pocket PC, Five Pebbles, and Rana Plastic Bubbles, but their only full-length albums have been under the name Weatherday. Their second (and first in six years), Hornet Disaster (Topshelf), zips ahead 23-8 to give them their first NACC Top 10-peaking album and gives us our first opportunity to feature them on our weekly NACC Chart Recap.

Our final new album in the Top 10 this week comes from a band that is no stranger to the top echelon of our charts. Louisville, KY five-piece My Morning Jacket have been together since 1998 and have released ten studio albums. Their previous two reached the NACC Top 10 (2020’s The Waterfall II debuted inside the Top 10). Their latest effort, Is (Merge), wastes no time becoming their third Top 10 album here, rising 107-15-9. It’s also inside the Top 10 on the NACC NEXT and Non-Comm Charts.

Another album that most likely will find itself inside the NACC 200’s Top 10 next week is this week’s most-added and highest-debuting record. It comes from the English sextet, Black Country, New Road. Forming in 2018, the band has enjoyed great success at NACC. Their first two studio albums reached the Top 10 of the NACC 200 in 2021 and 2022. Now their third LP, Forever Howlong (Ninja Tune), collects 81 Top 10 Adds (the second-most this year) and blasts onto the NACC 200 at #15 (the third-highest debut of 2025).

Pittsburgh quartet Feeble Little Horse spends a third straight week at #1 on NACC Singles with their stand-alone single, “This Is Real.” It’s the band’s first new music since 2023. After bursting onto the scene in 2021 with “Chaise Lounge” and having their self-titled debut LP spend seven weeks at #1 on the NACC 200, it’s an understatement to say that Wet Leg‘s return was greatly anticipated. The first single from their upcoming sophomore release, Moisturizer (due July 11), is called “Catch These Fists” and it’s by far the most-added new single this week. They also tie Lucy Dacus for the most Top 10 Adds this year with 41 Adds in their first week.
