NACC 200 NOTABLES:
1] Enjoying a strong second week at #1 on the NACC 200 is a band that didn’t exist when the year began. Snocaps, which includes Katie Crutchfield (aka Waxahatchee) and fellow NACC 200 chart-topper MJ Lendermann, holds firm at #1 and gains points again over last week with their self-titled debut album. Though they surrender the NACC Non-Comm summit to Mavis Staples this week, they remain at #1 on NACC NEXT and climb to #1 on NACC Canadian as well.
2] Three albums reach the NACC Top 10 this week. Making the biggest move into the top tier is last week’s most-added album, Balloon Balloon Balloon, from Kai Slater, who records as Sharp Pins. His third album soars from 80-6 on the NACC 200.
3] Rising 17-9 to score their first NACC Top 10 is the Australian quartet The Belair Lip Bombs. Their sophomore studio album, Again, enjoyed the highest debut on the NACC 200 three weeks ago, opening at #25, and now rises 17-9.
4] Jumping from 22-10 to score the third of our trio of new Top 10 albums is Texas trio Khruangbin. Since forming in 2010, the band has released six LPs, including their latest, The Universe Smiles Upon You ii, which includes 10 entirely new renditions of songs from their debut album. It becomes their fourth NACC Top 10 entry.
5] Scoring most-added honors this week is Maya Laner, who records as True Blue. Her debut album, Star Witness, collects 45 Top 10 Adds. Touring with Caroline Polachek and having close working relationships with Alex G & Porches has certainly built anticipation for her album.
GENRE CHART HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK
1] Courtney Barnett holds down #1 on the NACC Singles Chart for a sixth straight week with “Stay In Your Lane.” Of the 18 songs that have topped the chart this year, it’s now just the second to spend six or more weeks at #1. Wet Leg’s 11-week stay with “Catch These Fists” is still the longest of the year.
2] With one chart week left in 2025, half of our 14 NACC Charts have now had an equal or greater number of chart-toppers than last year. The NACC Heavy Chart ties 2024’s total this week, bringing it halfway there as Drain rises to #1. There is only one more chart that can match last year’s total with a new #1 next week: the NACC Electronic Chart.
3] Accomplished musician and producer Don Was rises to #1 at NACC Jazz this week with his new project Don Was And The Pan-Detroit Ensemble. Over the years, Was has won six Grammys, including for producing the Album Of The Year winner at the Grammys in 1989 for Bonnie Raitt’s Nick Of Time. Albums he has produced have sold nearly 100 million copies, and he enjoyed his own Top 10 single in 1987 with his band Was (Not Was) and the song “Walk The Dinosaur.”
