NACC 200 NOTABLES:
1] It was a wild, down-to-the-wire finish for the NACC 200 crown this week. Last week’s highest-debuting and most-added album from Asheville’s Wednesday led the NACC 200 Building Chart all weekend. In fact, they led it all day Monday and Tuesday as well. But with only five minutes before the reporting deadline, The Beths rose back to #1, where they stayed for all of five minutes. With seconds to go, Wednesday popped back in front to score their second NACC 200 chart-topper. Their 2023 album, Rat Saw God, spent four weeks at #1. And now their follow-up and sixth LP, Bleeds, leaps 11-1. It’s just the second album this year to climb from outside the Top 10 to #1 and the second in a row, as The Beths made the same move at the beginning of the month. And it ties numerous records for the fastest climb ever to #1.
2] The only new addition to the Top 10 this week is a hefty mover. After debuting at #38 last week, Brooklyn trio Nation Of Language zips ahead 38-8 with Dance Called Memory. Their fourth LP becomes their third straight Top 10 charting album here on the NACC 200. Fun fact: Lead singer Ian Richard Devaney (not to be confused with producer, composer and husband of Lisa Stansfield, Ian Devaney) is also in a group called Machinegum with The Strokes’ drummer Fabrizio Moretti.
3] Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy has returned with his fifth solo LP, Twilight Override. Between Wilco, Uncle Tupelo, solo records, and his collaborative album with his son, this is Tweedy’s 23rd studio album. He’s also the artist who has enjoyed more #1 albums on the NACC 200 (solo & with Wilco combined) than anyone else: five chart-toppers. This week, he enjoys the highest debut on the NACC 200, opening at #18.
4] This week’s biggest climb on the NACC 200 belongs to Philadelphia’s Golden Apples. Begun as a solo endeavor at the beginning of the pandemic by Russell Edling, the band’s fourth album, Shooting Star, is shooting up the chart this week, rising from 199 to 33.
5] Brooklyn quartet Geese have this week’s most-added record. Formed in 2016, their fourth album, Getting Killed, collects 78 Top 10 Adds and enjoys the third highest debut of the week on the NACC 200 at #30.
GENRE CHART HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK
1] Alabama Shakes enjoys a third week atop the NACC Singles Chart this week with their comeback single “Another Life.” Their first new music in a decade marks a return from their hiatus that began in 2017. Now touring again and plotting a new album, the band enjoys the narrowest margin the NACC Singles Chart has ever seen between the top two singles. Less than a quarter of a point separates them from Thundercat, who rises 5-2. They also jumped from 6-1 to top the NACC R&B/Soul Chart this week.
2] Only one artist tops two NACC Charts this week. Ecuadorian singer Cecilia Villar Eljuri, who records simply as Eljuri, tops both the NACC World and NACC Latin charts with her sixth album, Así Es El Mundo. It’s a second week at #1 on the NACC Latin Chart and a first at NACC World, as she rises from 5-1.
3] Three acts rebound to #1 on their respective charts this week. The Beths may have surrendered the top spot on the NACC 200, but they rise back 2-1 at NACC NEXT. Molly Tuttle rebounds 2-1 in NACC Folk after two weeks away. And Marissa Nadler climbs 3-1 on NACC Chill after two weeks away for her third cumulative week at #1.
