Unknown Mortal Orchestra spends a second week at #1 with fifth LP

After a five week-in-a-row revolving door at #1 on the NACC 200, New Zealand five-piece Unknown Mortal Orchestra happily puts an end to that streak by spending a second week at #1 with their fifth LP, appropriately titled V (Jagjaguwar/Secretly Group). The roman numeral enthusiasts also remain inside the Top 5 on both the NACC NEXT and NACC Non-Comm Charts, though they do lose the #1 spot at NACC NEXT. That being said, they still have the third best point total of the year and move into a tie for second place on the list of longest runs at #1 so far this year.

Two albums will battle Unknown Mortal Orchestra for #1 next week. Last week’s most-added release from The New Pornographers rises 5-3 this week. The other is Asheville, NC quartet Wednesday, who formed in 2017. Last week their fifth studio release, Rat Saw God (Dead Oceans/Secretly Group), enjoyed the week’s highest debut and was also the most-added record as well. This week the ‘hump-day’ champions soar into the NACC Top 10 (the only new album in the top tier) leaping 29-4.

The biggest climb into the NACC Top 20 this week comes from Turkish six-piece Altin Gün. The band (whose name translates to ‘golden day’) hails from Amsterdam and formed in 2016. The original lineup has remained intact over five LPs, including their latest, Aşk (ATO). The album has been #1 on the NACC World Chart for two weeks already, but will have to stay there over the next four weeks to match their previous record’s run at the top there in 2021.

A Seattle quartet that were instrumental in the rise of grunge in the late 80s are back with this week’s highest debut on the NACC 200. Mudhoney formed in 1988 and aside from three albums along the way on Reprise, started their career and continue to release music on Sub Pop Records. They, notably, were one of Kurt Cobain’s favorite bands and have inspired countless grunge and alternative musicians over their 35 year career. Plastic Eternity is their 11th LP and first since 2018 and it debuts at #30 this week.

Another longtime indie-rock favorite is back with their 10th studio album. The Fruit Bats came together in 1997 and rose to prominence early in their career on Sub Pop as well. Their latest release, A River Running Through Your Heart, is their fourth for Merge Records. The album collects 59 Top 10 Adds (just ahead of The Tallest Man On Earth, who collects 57) and debuts at #95 on the NACC 200 this week.

Aunties of the world rejoice! It’s a big week for Beths and Lindas! Two weeks ago The Beths enjoyed the most-added single of the week with “Watching The Credits,” a song recorded alongside those that were included on their previous LP, Expert In A Dying Field. This week the track rises 2-1 on the NACC Singles Chart and reaches the Top 40 of the NACC 200. The Linda Lindas are back with this week’s most-added single, “Too Many Things.” The song is their first new music of 2023 and was released just ahead of their Coachella show this past Saturday. Theirs is one of just three singles to reach the NACC 200 Top 30 Adds Chart this week (Ben Harper feat. Jack Johnson and Samia enjoying the others).

The current Top 5 overall NACC Adds, the genre chart-toppers, and the week’s most-added genre records are included below. In addition to rebounds to #1 at NACC NEXT, Latin, & Hip Hop there are new chart-toppers this week at Jazz & Blues.
