Waxahatchee locks down #1 on the NACC 200 for a second week

Katie Crutchfield, aka Waxahatchee, not only locks down #1 on the NACC 200 for a second week, but she enjoys the new highest point total of 2024 and the most points for a #1 on the chart since November of 2022! Her sixth album, Tigers Blood (Anti-), matches the length of time her previous chart-topper, 2020’s Saint Cloud, spent at #1 and gives her her fifth cumulative week on top over her three #1 albums. Waxahatchee also adds a fifth NACC chart to the list this album has topped. She spent a week at #1 on NACC NEXT and currently spends a third week at #1 on NACC Non-Comm, a second on NACC Folk, and rises to #1 at NACC Canadian this week.

An incredible half of this week’s Top 10 is new to the top tier. We featured two of them here last week: Chastity Belt (last week’s biggest mover) races 23-10 and Khruangbin (last week’s highest debut) soars 11-2. Making the biggest move into the Top 10 is last week’s most-added album from five-time Grammy winners The Black Keys. The Akron, OH duo soars from 41-5 with their twelfth album, Ohio Players (Nonesuch/Warner), as they seek their third NACC 200 #1. They’ll be on tour this fall starting September 17 in Tulsa, OK. In the meantime, you can catch them at the NASCAR Chicago Street Race in July with Keith Urban, The Chainsmokers, and Lauren Alaina.

Two other bands reach the Top 10 this week that we haven’t had a chance to feature yet. New York City trio Vampire Weekend is the first. Their fifth album, Only God Was Above Us (Columbia/Sony), is their first recorded with their current roster. Their initial three albums included producer & musician Rostam, who assisted with producing on this record. Their fourth album, 2019’s Father Of The Bride, was what essentially amounted to a solo project for lead singer Ezra Koenig alongside Ariel Rechtshaid and Danielle Haim. This week, Vampire Weekend leaps 25-7 in search of their second NACC 200 chart-topper after spending four weeks on top in 2019.

The final new entry to the NACC Top 10 this week comes from Los Angeles trio Chicano Batman. Members Eduardo Arenas, Carolos Arévalo, and Bardo Martinez formed the band in 2008. Their fifth studio album, Notebook Fantasy (ATO) rises 17-9 this week. They reached #1 on the NACC 200 in 2020 with their previous album, Invisible People. They are currently on a US tour that sees dates right on through June.

Honorable mention this week goes to Maggie Rogers. Her third album scored the highest debut on the NACC 200 this week at #29. We also tip our proverbial cap to longtime alt-country band Old 97s. Their 13th proper studio album enjoys the biggest climb on the NACC 200, up 185-73.

Canadian trio Metz land this week’s most-added album. Formed in Ottawa in 2007 by longtime friends Alex Adkins and Hayden Menzies, the two moved to Toronto a year after beginning the band and added Chris Slorach. The three have been together ever since, releasing five LPs, including their latest, Up On Gravity Hill (Royal Mountain). The album collects 66 Top 10 Adds and should make a splashy NACC 200 debut next week.

After soaring 22-2 on the NACC Singles Chart last week, Sabrina Teitelbaum, who records as Blondshell, finishes her climb to the #1 with her collaborative single “Docket” feat. Bully. For now it’s a stand-alone single after the two artists each released successful solo albums last year. Two singles tie for most-added honors this week out of the 46 singles that went for adds. Apparently having a four letter band name that begins with D was the key to unlocking #1 glory this week! The first top add-getter is “Alien,” the third advance single from Chicago trio Dehd‘s upcoming fifth LP, Poetry, due May 10. The second is “Quick To Judge,” a new track from Perth, Australian quartet Dice. The song was released to help promote the band’s upcoming national tour of their home country.
