The Linda Lindas score their first NACC 200 Chart Toppper

We mentioned last week that The Linda Lindas were a mere 100 points away from the #1 spot. So it’s not a huge surprise that their first Top 10-peaking album now becomes their first #1. But it wasn’t a cake walk. At times during the reporting period, the album that ended up at #2 was #1 on the NACC Building Chart. The gap between the top two albums ended up being just over 50 points! But in the end, The Linda Lindas’ second LP, No Obligation (Epitaph), rose from 2-1 on the chart. They’ll have their work cut out for them to grab more than one week at #1 with a wave of new titles surging up the NACC 200. Half of the top tier this week was not in the Top 10 last week.

There are three albums climbing into a very active Top 10 this week along with one debut and one rebound. Thee Sacred Souls bounce back 11-9 after dropping 9-11 last week. The first of our features is the biggest climber into the top tier. It comes from Melbourne, Australia’s Amyl And The Sniffers. The olfactory-blessed quartet are back with their third studio album, Cartoon Darkness (B2B). The group have put their noses to the grindstone and enjoyed success right from the beginning. Their rise this week makes them a perfect three-for-three with Top 10 releases.

Also racing onto the Top 10 is Sophia Allison aka Soccer Mommy. This is our whopping 21st time featuring Soccer Mommy here in our weekly NACC Chart Recap. Her previous three albums have reached #1 on the NACC 200 and she’s even enjoyed a rare Top 10 single. This week her fourth LP, Evergreen (Loma Vista/Concord), certainly looks like it may become her fourth #1 as it screams ahead 21-2 on the NACC 200 and is mere points away from the top. She is already #1 at NACC NEXT where she leaps 20-1.

Dan Snaith, who has recorded under many names over the years including Manitoba and Daphni, is back in the NACC Top 10. He has 11 studio albums under his belt since he began making music in 2000, and his sixth as Caribou has given him his second NACC Top 10 album. Honey (Merge) rises 12-8 on the NACC 200 this week. He also enjoys a third week at #1 at NACC Electronic with his latest release.

After a torturous (especially for their diehard fans) sixteen years since their last studio album, celebrated English six-piece The Cure is back. And they are back in a big, big way. They already hit #1 on the NACC Singles Chart (as recently as last week) with one of the preview songs from this album. Now their 14th LP, Songs Of A Lost World (Fiction/Capitol), is simultaneously this week’s most-added and highest-debuting album. Their 89 Top 10 Adds are the most since early March and their #7 debut on the NACC 200 gives them one of only 11 albums ever to debut at #7 or higher on the chart.

With The Cure graduating from the singles to albums chart, we knew we’d have a new #1 on NACC Singles this week. It belongs to last week’s most-added single, “Afterlife,” from Sharon Van Etten And The Attachment Theory. The song comes from their self-titled debut, due February 7. Only three of the 43 singles that officially went for adds this week land inside the NACC 200 Top 30 Adds Chart this week. Tops among them is Nick Carpenter, who records as Medium Build. The second preview track from his Marietta EP, out November 15, is called “Yoke” and it features Julien Baker. Also squeaking onto the NACC Top 30 Adds Chart are new songs from Sam Lynch and Tunde Adebimpe.
