Death Cab For Cutie wants their first NACC #1 experience to last

NACC 200 NOTABLES:

1] Bellingham, WA quintet Death Cab For Cutie may have had two near misses at #1 on the NACC 200 in 2018 & 2022, but they are making up for lost time with their 11th LP, I Built You A Tower. Not only does the album enjoy a second week at #1 on our flagship chart (with the highest charting total since May 5), but it also enjoys another week atop both the NACC NEXT & NACC Non-Comm Charts. The radio hat trick!

2] Two albums reach the NACC 200 Top 10 this week. First up is our biggest climber into the top tier. It comes from rapper, singer, songwriter, and actor Vince Staples. Born in Compton, CA, Staples’ music career began in 2008. He has released seven studio albums, including his latest, Cry Baby. It’s his first to reach the Top 10, giving us our first opportunity to feature him here. His album also spends a second week at #1 on NACC Hip Hop.

3] Also reaching the Top 10 is last week’s biggest climber on the NACC 200 from Brooklyn-based Widowspeak. They rose 88-18 with their seventh LP, Roses. Now the album bounces ahead 18-9 and scores Tacoma, WA natives Molly Hamilton and Michael Stasiak their second NACC 200 Top 10.

4] Enjoying this week’s biggest climb on the NACC 200 is Montreal five-piece La Sécurité. They began in 2020 as a side project for the band members when they couldn’t play in their primary bands during the COVID-19 lockdown. Their debut album, Stay Safe!, was released in 2023 and was long-listed for the Polaris Music Prize. Their sophomore album, Bingo!, solidifies their love for exclamation marks and leaps 142-31 on the NACC 200.

5] Taking ‘Most-Added Honors’ this week is Styrofoam Winos. The trio met a decade ago while working at the now-closed JJ’s Market and Cafe in Nashville. The band’s third LP, Any River, collects 48 Top 10 Adds this week and should bode well for a nice NACC 200 debut next week.

GENRE CHART HIGHLIGHTS:

1] After a six-week journey to #1 that culminated in a 5-1 climb last week, Lucy Dacus enjoys a second week atop NACC Singles with her latest track, “Planting Tomatoes.” A lead of just nine points grows to over 40 points this week over her closest competitor, Beck, who climbs 5-2 with his latest single, “Ride Lonesome.”

2] Arlo Parks enjoys a seventh non-consecutive week atop NACC R&B/Soul this week with her third album, Ambiguous Desire. That not only gives her sole possession of the longest stay at #1 on this chart so far in 2026, but moves her within one week of matching Tinsley Ellis (NACC Blues) and Death Cab For Cutie (NACC Singles) for the longest stay atop any NACC Chart this year.

3] We haven’t felt compelled to highlight gender on any chart for some time, mainly because College & Non-Comm Radio excels in supporting music in this way, where many radio genres do not (looking at you Country, Rock, and Alternative). But we noticed that all but one of this year’s NACC Folk chart-toppers have been solo women, women-only bands, or projects where half of a duo was female. That combination accounts for 11 of this chart’s 12 #1s this year. NACC Folk’s five most recent #1s contain not one man.
