NACC 200 NOTABLES:
1] Rising to #1 this week is Snocaps, a new band that consists of multiple artists that have reached #1 on the NACC 200 with their other projects. Katie Crutchfield, better know as Waxahatchee, most recently hit #1 in 2024 with her sixth album, Tigers Blood. Snocaps bandmate MJ Lendermann also reached #1 last year with his fourth LP, Manning Fireworks. Now these two (along with Katie’s sister Allison & Brad Cook) have reached #1 with their self-titled debut release. Lenderman now has three NACC 200 chart-toppers (one solo, one with Wednesday, and now one with Snocaps). Katie Crutchfield has four leaders (three with Waxahatchee and now one with Snocaps). She joins Jeff Tweedy and Andy Shauf as the only musicians with four or more #1s (solo and with their bands) on the NACC 200.
2] Chicago band Whitney has reached the Top 10 this week with their fifth studio album, Small Talk. Formed in 2015 after the dissolution of guitarist Max Kakacek and drummer Julien Ehrlich’s band Smith Westerns, Whitney has now scored their second Top 10-peaking album. Their second LP, 2019’s Forever Turned Around, also reached the top tier. The nine-piece band’s 31-10 leap is the biggest climb into the Top 10 this week. Hatchie also reaches the Top 10, up 16-8.
3] Longtime English DJ and record producer George Evelyn, who records as Nightmares On Wax, enjoys the NACC 200’s biggest climb this week with his 10th album, Echo56 Sound System. It’s been a minute since we had a chance to feature Evelyn here. The last was in 2018, when his 8th album Shape The Future reached the Top 10. Nightmares On Wax also reaches the Top 10 at Electronic this week, up 26-7.
4] Atlanta, GA band Sword II is back with their sophomore album, Electric Hour. Originally called Evil Sword, the trio of Mari González, Certain Zuko, and Travis Arnold decided to change their name to Sword II for no other reason than they wanted to. Their #39 debut on the NACC 200, the highest of the week, allows us to feature them on this NACC Chart Recap for the first time.
5] Scoring most-added honors this week is Kai Slater, who takes the moniker Sharp Pins when making music. Slater is also the guitarist (and sometimes vocalist) for the band Lifeguard. The Chicago musician collects 49 Top 10 Adds this week with his third Sharp Pins album, Balloon Balloon Balloon. The album also debuts at #80 on the NACC 200.
GENRE CHART HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK
1] Courtney Barnett settles in for a fifth straight week at #1 on NACC Singles with “Stay In Your Lane.” Of the 18 that have topped the chart this year, it’s one of three singles to spend five weeks or more at #1.
2] The NACC Jazz Chart has now seen seven weeks in a row of one-week stays at #1. This is the longest such streak on any NACC chart all year. We looked back as far as 2020, and no chart has ever had as high turnover.
3] With Roomful Of Blues‘ album Steppin’ Out spending a second week at #1 on NACC Blues this week, this chart is the only one that has seen every #1 this year spend multiple weeks at #1.
