The Last Dinner Party makes quick rise to #1 on the NACC 200

We mentioned an onslaught of new albums encroaching on Sleater-Kinney’s #1 perch last week. This week one of those albums overtook the legendary duo and it happens to be another all-female band, though this group is only one album deep into their career. The Last Dinner Party is a London-based quintet that began making music together in 2021. They were signed in 2023 and released their debut single in April of that year. Buzz built for their debut album, Prelude To Ecstasy (Universal), with a number of subsequent advance tracks as well as high profile features at Glastonbury and on BBC’s Later… with Jules Holland and The Graham Norton Show. It led to strong reviews and a #1 debut on the UK Albums Chart. It also translated into a quick rise to #1 here on the NACC 200 as well, where they climb 3-1.

Two new albums reach the NACC Top 10 this week. Brittany Howard’s second solo release rises 11-9 giving her her second NACC Top 10 album. But it’s English five-piece Idles, who we featured here last week after they simultaneously scored the week’s most-added album and the highest debut, that makes the biggest move into the top tier. The band’s fifth studio release, Tangk (Partisan), zips from 18-6 on the NACC 200 giving them their third NACC Top 10-peaking album. They also rise to #1 this week on the NACC NEXT Chart.

Making this week’s highest debut on the NACC 200 is longtime indie favorite Grandaddy. Formed in 1992 and led by musician Jason Lytle, Grandaddy have released six studio albums. Their latest, Blu Wav (Dangerbird), is their first all new release since 2017. It also marks the band’s first album recorded without longtime bassist Kevin Garcia, who sadly passed away in 2017 at the far-too-young age of 41. The band is welcomed onto the NACC 200 at #19 this week.

Making the biggest climb so far this year on the NACC 200 is Chicago-based duo Friko. Originally begun as a trio in 2019, the group recorded two EPs. Upon signing to ATO Records in 2023, they announced they were now a duo. Niko Kapetan and Bailey Minzenberger released their debut LP, Where We’ve Been, Where We Go From Here on the 16th and this week the album soars 194-20 on the NACC 200. Pitchfork recently included the album in their ‘9 New Albums You Should Listen To Now’ feature.

Another indie favorite returns this week too. Ridgewood, NJ quintet Real Estate are back with their sixth LP, Daniel (Domino). The band began making music together in 2008 but two of the bandmates first met as far back as third grade and became friends in eight grade after bonding over their shared love of bands like Weezer, Built To Spill, and Pavement. They collect 69 Top 10 Adds this week with Daniel, which also debuts at #50 on the NACC 200.

Faye Webster holds tight to the #1 spot on the NACC Singles Chart this week with her third preview track from the upcoming Underdressed At The Symphony album, due March 1. “Lego Ring” features Lil Yachty and will be part of her fifth studio release. Taking ‘most-added single’ honors this week is Wales duo Catfish And The Bottlemen. “Showtime” is their first new music in five years and previews a yet-to be announced fourth album on Capitol Records. The song bests new music from Winnetka Bowling League (by one add), Hockey Dad, and Yhwh Nailgun, who also place on the NACC 200 Top 30 Singles Chart with their latest singles.
