Every year leading up to this one has had at least one album spend five or more weeks on top of the NACC 200. And now 2024 is no different. Katie Crutchfield, who records as Waxahatchee, breaks her tie with Sleater-Kinney for the most weeks spent at #1 in 2024. Her sixth album, Tigers Blood (Anti-), once again holds Khruangbin (2-2) and The Black Keys (3-3) at bay and enjoys a fifth straight week atop the chart. Waxahatchee does relinquish the top spot on NACC Non-Comm to Khruangbin. But she enjoys her fourth week commanding NACC Canadian, which is also the most there in 2024 so far.
In addition to Khruangbin and The Black Keys, another artist has entered the fray in the hunt to score the next #1 on the NACC 200. Last week’s highest debut from St Vincent soars 21-4 on the chart this week. Annie Clark began her career as part of the band The Polyphonic Spree and was also a member of Sufjan Stevens touring band at one time. She has been recording as St Vincent since 2003 and her seventh LP, All Born Screaming (Total Pleasure), is certainly in great position to possibly become her third straight NACC 200 chart-topper. The album reaches #1 on NACC NEXT this week, up 6-1. Also reaching the Top 10 this week is Metz (who we have featured here twice recently), rising 12-5.
Singer-songwriter Sam Beam (better known under his stage name, Iron And Wine), has returned with his seventh solo studio album. The South Carolina native also has three more collaborative albums under his belt. Light Verse (Sub Pop) is his first solo effort since 2017 and soars from 126-21 on the NACC 200, making it the week’s biggest climber. His more recent album, 2019’s Years To Burn with Calexico, reached the NACC 200’s Top 3.
The highest debut on the chart this week comes from Hudson, NY-based duo Babehoven. The project began as a trio and released their first EP in 2018. Two more EPs followed before a line-up change. Member Maya Bon was the only one that remained of the original trio, bringing in Ryan Albert as a collaborator. Together they have released two LPs including their latest, Water’s Here In You (Double Double Whammy), debuting at #28 on the NACC 200 this week.
Los Angeles musician Hana Vu got her start making music about a decade ago at the tender age of 14 opening for Soccer Mommy as well as working with Willow Smith along the way. Four studio albums have followed including her latest, Romanticism on Ghostly International/Secretly Group. The album gives us our second opportunity to feature her in our weekly NACC Chart Recap, with Vu’s debut album landing the highest debut on the NACC 200 in 2018. Now her fourth LP is this week’s most-added album with 62 Top 10 Adds.
Irish quartet Fontaines DC quite easily lands a second week atop the NACC Singles Chart with “Starbuster.” The song, which also rises 42-25 on the NACC 200, comes from their fourth album, Romance, due for release August 23. Four singles reach the NACC 200 Top 30 Adds Chart this week of the 61 singles going for adds. Highest among them is the second preview track from LA trio Winnetka Bowling League‘s upcoming debut album, Sha La La, which comes out May 31. They recently reached the Top 10 of the NACC Singles Chart with the title track. The other artists with singles placing on the NACC 200 Top 30 Adds Chart includes Hippo Campus, Washed Out, and Softcult.
