NACC 200 NOTABLES:
1] After a nail-bitingly close race for the top spot last week, Arlo Parks quite comfortably spends a second week atop the NACC 200 this week with her third LP (and third chart-topper), Ambiguous Desire. The gap between her and the next artist on the chart, Snail Mail, grows exponentially this week. She also bounces back from 3-1 on NACC NEXT after a week away from the top spot and holds at #2 on NACC Non-Comm.
2] Two albums reach the NACC’s top tier this week. The New Pornographers, which includes original members Carl Newman and Neko Case, has climbed 15-8 with their tenth album, The Former Site Of. With nearly 30 years together, the band has enjoyed great success on College & Non-Comm Radio. Their previous three albums have all reached #1 on the NACC 200. And New York-based duo Fcukers rises 16-9 with their debut LP, Ö, and gives us our first opportunity to feature the band here.
3] The NACC 200’s highest debut comes from Honey Redmond, who records professionally as Honey Dijon. The Chicago-born DJ, producer, and electronic musician now splits time between New York and Berlin. She has remixed music for everyone from Madonna and David Bowie to Lady Gaga and Dua Lipa. She has songwriting credits with Beyoncé and Jamie xx. And now her third album, The Nightlife, opens at #25 on the NACC 200 this week.
4] After tying for #1 on the NACC Adds Chart last week, Brooklyn eight-piece They Might Be Giants makes this week’s biggest climb on the NACC 200, jumping 165-30. The band is in search of their third Top 10-peaking album on the NACC 200. Their first album in five years (and 24th studio album overall), The World Is To Dig, is well on its way this week.
5] Chicago quartet Friko takes most-added honors this week with their second LP, Something Worth Waiting For. The band formed as a trio in 2019 with friends who attended high school together. Two of those original members (lead vocalist & guitarist Niko Kapetan & drummer Bailey Minzenberger) remain. The band has released two EPs and their second LP collects 69 Top 10 Adds. They also debut at #49 on the NACC 200.
GENRE CHART HIGHLIGHTS:
1] Death Cab For Cutie holds firm at #1 atop NACC Singles with “Riptides,” the first single from their forthcoming 11th LP, I Built You A Tower. This is the song’s fifth week at #1, and ties them with Arlo Parks’ “2SIDED” for the most weeks spent at #1 on NACC Singles this year.
2] Making, by far, the biggest climb to #1 on any NACC Chart this week is Swedish beat metal band At The Gates, who soars 12-1 at NACC Heavy, with their eighth LP, The Ghost Of A Future Dead. The album serves as a tribute to lead singer Tomas Lindberg, who sadly passed away last September. He recorded his vocals for the album before a cancer surgery that made him unable to sing.
3] Music producer, DJ, and musician Eric Hilton first reached #1 on NACC Chill in early March with his album, A Sky So Close. The album has subsequently re-climbed to #1 three more times. All four weeks the album has accumulated atop NACC Chill have never been back-to-back.
