Can Mitski hold off Snail Mail & Arlo Parks for a 6th Week at #1?

NACC 200 NOTABLES:

1] It was a very competitive week as Mitski looked to hold onto the top spot in the wake of fast-surging albums from Snail Mail and Arlo Parks. There were times when the chart was coming together that Arlo Parks was ahead of Mitski. But when the bell rang and the chart deadline arrived, Mitski held tight to the top spot. That means Mitski’s eighth LP, Nothing’s About To Happen To Me, has now been at #1 for six straight weeks. That not only gives her a chart-best 22 cumulative weeks atop the NACC 200 across her four #1s, but she now climbs into a tie for 9th place for the longest run at #1 any single album has enjoyed. In doing so, she joins Wet Leg as the only other act with two albums that have spent 6+ weeks at #1.

2] Three albums reach the NACC Top 10 this week. The biggest move belongs to Los Angeles native Stephen Bruner, who records as Thundercat. His fifth studio album, Distracted, lands him his third Top 10-peaking album (and all three of them have been the biggest climber into the Top 10 the week they reached the top tier) by climbing 19-6.

3] Also rising into the Top 10 is last week’s most-added and highest debuting album from Arlo Parks. Her third album, Ambiguous Desire, has high expectations heaped upon it as she seeks to go three-for-three with NACC 200 chart-toppers. And she certainly seems well on her way. After debuting at #11 last week, she soars to #2 this week, and momentum certainly looks in her favor. She climbs 5-1 at NACC NEXT.

4] Our third act to reach the Top 10 this week is just the eighth single ever to reach the top tier. Death Cab For Cutie has been #1 on NACC Singles with “Riptides” for two weeks. Now the song jumps 16-10 on the NACC 200. It’s certainly been a robust year for singles on the chat. Only three had ever reached the Top 10 before the new year arrived. That total has now more than doubled in just three and a half months.

5] ‘Most-Added’ honors this week belong to UK quartet Lime Garden. Formed in 2017 while attending college in Guildford, the band has released two LPs, including their latest, Maybe Not Tonight. The album collects 49 Top 10 Adds this week (one more than Makthaverskan) and earns its first mention in our Wednesday NACC Chart Recap. They also debut on the NACC 200 this week at #146.

GENRE CHART HIGHLIGHTS:

1] Aforementioned Bellingham, WA quintet Death Cab For Cutie enjoys a third week atop the NACC Singles Chart with “Riptides,” the first single from their upcoming 11th LP, I Built You A Tower. The song, in addition to reaching the Top 10 on the NACC 200, is also up 4-3 on NACC NEXT and 13-5 on NACC Non-Comm.

2] Swedish pop phenom Robyn Carlsson (who records simply as Robyn) has been making music since 1989 and scored two huge Top 10-peaking Billboard Hot 100 hits as a teenager with “Do You Know (What It Takes)” and “Show Me Love.” Since then, her career has largely gone underground in North America, though anyone who doesn’t know her 2010 single “Dancing On My Own” (which has made countless best of (ever) lists over the years) has to be living under a rock. Now her ninth LP, Sexistential, gives her a #1 album at NACC as it rises 5-1 on NACC Electronic.

3] The majority of NACC charts have already seen rebounding #1 albums this year (albums that reached #1, fell from the top spot, and rose back to #1). This week, NACC Heavy joins that list as Lamb Of God rises back to #1 after two weeks away with their 12th album, Into Oblivion. The only charts left that have not seen an album rebound back to #1 this year are NACC Electronic, NACC World, and NACC NEXT.
