Bully scores first NACC 200 #1 album with her third release, SUGAREGG

Twin Cities native and Nashville-based singer Alicia Bognanno, who records as Bully, scores her first NACC 200 #1 album this week with her third release, SUGAREGG (Sub Pop). Her album now rules two of the NACC 200’s biggest charts, as she spends a second week on top of NACC NEXT this week. Bully will look to hold off Girl Friday (5-4) as well as the two new entries into the NACC Top 10 this week for a second week on top next week.

Those two new albums reaching the NACC Top 10 this week come from Angel Olsen, who rises 11-6 in search of her second NACC 200 #1 record, and New York-based Widowspeak (fronted by Molly Hamilton and Robert Earl Thomas), who makes the biggest move of the two, leaping 19-5 with their fifth studio album, Plum, out on Captured Tracks.

We would be absolutely remiss in not acknowledging the terrible loss of beloved reggae legend Toots Hibbert. As the lead singer of Toots And The Maytals, Hibbert and his band released 22 LPs dating back to their debut release, Never Grow Old, in 1964. Considered a reggae pioneer on par with Bob Marley, Toots & The Maytals enjoyed more #1 songs (31!) in their home country of Jamaica than any other artist. Their latest release, Got To Be Tough, is their first in a decade and was already racing up the NACC Charts before Toots passed away on September 11 due to complications from COVID-19. The album soars 41-11 on the NACC 200 and reaches #1 at NACC Non-Comm & World.

There are some impressive jumps on the NACC 200 this week with Declan McKenna, The Happy Fits, and Throwing Muses all climbing 100+ spots. But the week’s biggest climb comes from veteran trip-hop producer Adrian Thaws who records as Tricky. His 14th LP, Fall To Pieces, out on his own False Idols imprint, leaps 190-34 on the NACC 200.

Collecting more Top 10 Adds this week than any record since Fiona Apple’s NACC 200 chart-topper Fetch The Bolt Cutters added in April is NYC-based duo Cults. Formed in 2010 by singer Madeline Follin and guitarist Brian Oblivion (both San Diego natives), Cults will be releasing their fifth LP, Host, on Friday. But you can hear the Sinderlyn release now by tuning in to College and Community stations across North America.

Father John Misty locks down #1 on NACC Singles for a second week with his new single “For S” b/w “For R.” And new wave icons New Order are back after a five-year break with “Be A Rebel,” NACC’s most-added new single this week.

The NACC Top 5 overall Adds, this week’s genre chart-toppers, and the week’s most-added genre records are included below. In addition to returns to #1 on the NACC Canadian and Hip Hop Charts, there are the aforementioned new chart-toppers at NACC Non-Comm & World as well as a new #1 at Electronic.
