#1 Fiona Apple | NACC Charts for the week ending May 19

Fiona Apple‘s NACC 200 chart dominance continues this week as she spends a fourth week on top, matching Soccer Mommy for the longest stay at #1 this year. Her fifth LP, Fetch The Bolt Cutters (Epic) fends off Thundercat and Car Seat Headrest for another week on top. It also extends a nice streak for female artists as well. After male artists (solo & male-fronted bands) sat at #1 for the first nine weeks of 2020, female artists (solo and female-fronted bands) have now been on top the last 11.

Two new albums climb into the NACC Top 10 this week. Hazel English rises 11-9 with her first NACC Top 10 album. But the biggest climb into the Top 10 comes from legendary punk quartet X. Considered to be one of the most influential bands of their era, X have returned with their first new album in 27 years and the first with their original lineup in 35 years! Their eighth LP, Alphabetland (Fat Possum), jumps from 19-7 this week.

Four artists debut inside the Top 40 of the NACC 200 this week including new albums from Perfume Genius, BOAT, & Tijuana Panthers, but it’s Puerto Rican outfit Buscabella who enjoy the highest debuting album this week at #32 with their Ribbon Records debut LP, Regresa. The duo (and couple) formed in 2011 and released EPs in 2014 and 2017.

The battle for the NACC 200’s biggest climber was a close one. STRFKR came close jumping 124-27, but the week’s biggest climb comes from mxmtoon, the recording name for Oakland, CA native Maia (she keeps her last name private). Her new EP, dawn, climbs 162-62 this week and follows last year’s debut LP, the masquerade.

Taking most-added honors this week is Thao & The Get Down Stay Down. The quintet formed in Falls Church Virginia but now calls San Francisco home. Led by Thao Nguyen, the band have released five LPs since forming in 2003, including their latest, Temple, out on Domino Records. The album also debuts on the NACC 200 this week at #138.

The Rolling Stones grab #1 on the NACC Singles Chart for a third straight week with “Living In A Ghost Town”. CHAI land this week’s most-added single with the second single they’ve released this year: “Ready Cheeky Pretty.”
