Two weeks ago we mentioned a battle royale for #1 on the NACC 200 that left the Top 2 records just eight scant points apart. This week that gap is even smaller! Only five points separate the Top 2 (the closest gap since June 2023). Last week’s #1 from Franz Ferdinand steps down 1-5 (the biggest drop from the top since July of last year). Although FKA Twigs gave it a real run rising 4-2, in the end, Scottish quartet Mogwai snuck by her to reach the top of the NACC 200 for the first time. Their tenth LP, As The Love Continues, reached the Top 5 in 2021. Their eleventh, a recent most-added album, finishes the task this week jumping 6-1.
Just one new album reached the NACC Top 10 this week but, it’s a proper biggest move into the top tier for last week’s most-added album. It comes from Sharon Van Etten And The Attachment Theory. The LA-based band is led by none other than Sharon Van Etten. It makes sense, then, that they would choose her to lead off their name. Their first fully collaborative album leaps from 28-6 on the NACC 200 this week and extends a commanding lead at #1 on NACC Non-Comm with well over twice as many points as the next record on that chart. She also soars 15-2 at NACC NEXT.
Several albums debuted closely together on the NACC 200 this week with the Top 5 debuts all within 11 spots of one another. The highest among them is the Chicago trio Horsegirl. Formed in 2019 by Nora Cheng, Penelope Lowenstein, and Gigi Reece, they’ve released three LPs, including their latest, Phonetics On And On (Matador). The album debuts at #37 this week, one spot higher than runner-up The Altons.
Canadian musician Art d’Ecco enjoys this week’s most-added album. Art d’Ecco is a stage name, but the Ottawa native has never revealed his birth name. Since his 2016 debut, Day Fevers, he has released four more studio albums, including his latest, Serene Demon (Paper Bag). He collects 53 Top 10 Adds this week and opens at #99 on the NACC 200.
The see-saw battle for #1 on the NACC Singles Chart between Japanese Breakfast and Lucy Dacus continues. This week Dacus has returned to #1 to enjoy her third non-consecutive week on top with “Ankles,” the lead single from her upcoming fourth LP, Forever Is A Feeling, due March 28. Only three singles of the 49 that officially went for adds this week make the NACC 200 Top 30 Adds Chart. Tops among them is Bon Iver. They teased their fifth album, SABLE, fABLE with a preview EP called SABLE in October. The first song since that EP release, “Everything Is Peaceful Love,” is this week’s most-added single. Also making the NACC 200 Top 30 Adds Chart is Eric Gabriel (of the band Melt) and Adult Mom.
